Suspected Boko Haram gunmen have reportedly kidnapped 20 women from a nomadic settlement in northeast Nigeria near the town of Chibok, where the Islamic militants abducted more than 300 schoolgirls and young women on April 15.
Alhaji Tar, a member of the vigilante groups set up to resist Boko Haram’s attacks, said the men arrived at noon Thursday in the Garkin Fulani settlement and forced the women to enter their vehicles at gunpoint. He says they drove away to an unknown location in the remote stretch of Borno state.
Tar said the group also took three young men who tried to stop the kidnapping.
“We tried to go after them when the news got to us about three hours later, but the vehicles we have could not go far, and the report came to us a little bit late,” he said.
In another incident, the Defense Headquarters said Monday that troops prevented raids by Boko Haram this weekend on villages in Borno and neighbouring Adamawa state. Soldiers killed more than 50 militants on Saturday night as they were on their way to attack communities, defence spokesman Chris Oluklade said in an emailed statement.
The Nigerian military has come under rising criticism from Nigerians who say they’re not protected by the security forces, left to fend off attacks by Boko Haram on their own.
Boko Haram, which wants to establish Islamic state in Nigeria, has been taking over villages in the northeast, killing and terrorising civilians and political leaders. Thousands of people have been killed in the five-year-old insurgency, more than 2,000 people have been killed so far this year, and an estimated 750,000 Nigerians have been driven from their homes.
In recent weeks, the extremists have used a two-pronged strategy and widened their theatre of operation beyond the remote northeast of the country. The group has bombed bus stations and marketplaces in three cities, killing about 250 people, and they are staging daily attacks on northeast villages, killing 20 people one day, and 50 another.
In one incident last week, the militants reportedly killed hundreds of civilians in three villages in the Gwoza local government. Residents said they had requested the military sends troops to protect the area after hearing Boko Haram militants were about to attack, but they said help never came.
The extremists abducted more than 300 girls from the Chibok Government Girls School on April 15, according to the police. Chibok community leader Pogu Bitrus says 57 girls escaped, leaving an estimated 272 still held captive.
With the unrelenting pace of modern life, a tidy, well-organized refrigerator is something that most people can only dream about. While we’d all love to keep our fridges ordered and clean, long work hours and other commitments often end up getting in the way. Having to throw away long-forgotten food items and making unnecessary purchases are just some of the more common annoyances of a household refrigerator in disarray. Continue...
To help restore order in the kitchen, LG Electronics (LG) set about finding answers to the question, “How can we make a fridge that’s more convenient to use and easier to keep organized?” After extensive consumer research, and a great deal of hard work, the company released a brilliantly rendered solution: the unique and innovative Door-in-Door.
According to a survey conducted by LG, four out of 10 consumers cannot, with any degree of certainty, name what’s inside their refrigerator. This lack of familiarity often results in food items being forgotten and eventually discarded. Moreover, a messy fridge leads one out of four consumers to waste time and money on unnecessary trips to the store to buy items they already have.
LG's Door-in-Door helps resolve such issues through the provision of convenient access and smarter organization. The double layered Door-in-Door opens with the simple push of a button, revealing the surprisingly spacious mini compartment with unexpected ease. This makes it quick and easy to find and access essential items and sought-after snacks without the inconvenience of searching through the bowels of a refrigerator while holding a pot or food in one hand.
"A large capacity is not the only factor people consider when buying a refrigerator,” said Mr. Hyunwoo Jung, General Manager, Home Appliance Division, LG Electronics. “Smarter, more intuitive food organization is now a must due to today’s busy lifestyles. Our Door-in-Door provides users with easyaccess to the items they use the most and gives them the freedom to arrange things just the way they like it. Not only does the Door-in-Door save time, it also keeps cold air locked inside the refrigerator’s main compartment. We are continuing to receive industry recognition and consumer praise for this innovative and practical of features. LG is dedicated to making life easier and will always strive to deliver next-level convenience to its customers.”
LG's comprehensive survey found that, in most households, the refrigerator is opened approximately 80 times per day – often by family members looking for the same few items. The Door-in-Door feature makes it possible to find needed items without having to open the refrigerator’s main door. This reduces cold air loss from the central compartment by as much as 41 percent. As a result, the compressor doesn’t need to ramp up its efforts to maintain a steady temperature inside the fridge, thereby reducing the amount of cold air loss and increasing preservation performance. It also helps to cut down on spending at the supermarket by keeping food fresher for a longer period of time.
Inside the Door-in-Door, LG’s adjustable Moving Basket combines with a handy drawer section to enable customized organization configurations to suit a variety of lifestyles. Each member of the family can easily adjust the height of the different interior compartments according to their own needs. This flexibility separates the Door-in-Door from conventional fixed configuration fridges and helps users to design a storage system that works best for them. Meanwhile, the Mini Table, another of the fridge’s smart features, provides a convenient, flat surface that makes it possible for users to pour drinks while standing at the fridge without carrying heavy bottles to the dinning table.
All of this means that families can customize shelf space to match specific food sets and individual lifestyles. One area of the fridge might be reserved for organic ingredients, while others might be set up for sandwich materials, desserts and snacks, beverages, or a variety of other food categories. Because the Moving Basket enables compartment dimensions to be adjusted, families can easily find a configuration that matches their own specific needs. Of course, food types and lifestyles differ by region and within regions. The Door-in-Door is just as accommodating to East Asian consumers looking to set up an oriental medicine section in their fridge as it is to Northern European consumers who might want a dairy section or North American consumers who might like a section just for sports drinks and protein shakes.
LG is the industry leading manufacturer when it comes to incorporating an additional compartment within the fridge’s front door. The original Door-in-Door made its debut in South Korea in February 2010. The feature has since become a global market trend. In 2011, they were introduced to markets in North America, Asia and South and Central America, with launches in Oceania, the Middle East and Africa coming the following year. LG has sold over 1.4 million Door-in-Door refrigerators worldwide and continues to refine its celebrated double layered door.
jall the benefits the Door-in-Door offers, it’s no wonder the feature has been integrated into each of LG’s global refrigerator categories, including side-by-side, French-door, top freezer and bottom freezer refrigerators. The company has gone one step further this year; the remarkable Double Door-in-Door refrigerator, released in South Korea, puts one Door-in-Door on the right door and another on the left, adding a whole new level of convenience. Even better, consumers around the world will soon get a chance to experience this convenience since LG is planning to launch the Double Door-in-Door in additional markets around the globe.
Double Door-in-Door refrigerator is a great example of LG’s ongoing effort to make life better for consumers in diverse markets around the world. After creating the original Door-in-Door in 2010, the company has upgraded the feature each and every year to enhance convenience in more intuitive ways.
LG is committed to using the latest innovations to continually exceed consumer expectations and push the industry forward. This is also why the Door-in-Door refrigerator has received widespread international acclaim for its powerful performance capabilities and breakthrough technologies.

Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade , Director of Defence Information, on Monday announced that the Nigerian army at the weekend killed about 50 Bomo Haram sect members in a foiled attack on villages in Borno and Adamawa states.
*Nigerian Army Personnel
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) made this known in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja.
According to the statement, the sect members were on their way to attack selected communities, when they were ambushed by soldiers along Bilta, Borno State, upon receiving intelligence report on the Islamist intention.
Olukolade said the attack was launched at about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, as the terrorists trooped out of the forest to embark on their mission.
The DHQ spokesman revealed that four soldiers sustained bullet wounds during the assault.
“More than 50 terrorists died in the fierce encounter that ensued, while 30 rifles, 36 hand grenades, 7 machine guns and 11rocket propelled grenade tubes were captured by the troops” Olukolade said. “Also recovered from the terrorists are 3,500 rounds of ammunition, six smoke grenade canisters, locally fabricated guns and four vehicles used by the terrorists in the foiled attack”.
He said the four soldiers that sustained injuries in the operation have been taken to a secure military medical facility for medical attention.
Olukolade said that the military had embarked on cordon and search in the area in order to fish out the wounded sect members.
Can an artiste be more powerful than a political office holder who is more respected in her country and in the diaspora?
This
above question has to do with the Nigerian’s Finance Minister, Dr.
Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, while delivering her speech at the convocation
ceremony at Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, on Sunday, June
1st.
Dr.
Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, was addressing the 1,544 graduating students of
the institution when Davido’s sudden entrance at the event created an
uproar of distraction.
The
AYE crooner dramatic entrance while the special guest of honour, the
Minister of Finance, was delivering her speech, made the Minister pause
and watched the diversion.
Davido’s
arrival held the audience spell-bound that the Minister had to pause
her speech and watch the students celebrate the artiste’s arrival who,
happens to be part of the graduating students with a degree in Music.

AC Milan fired coach Clarence Seedorf on Monday after less than five
months in charge and replaced him with youth team boss Filippo Inzaghi, a
move that had been on hold for two weeks.
"AC Milan have dismissed coach Clarence Seedorf and handed over the
first team to Filippo Inzaghi until June 30, 2016," the Serie A club and
seven-time European champions said in a statement.
Former Netherlands midfielder Seedorf, who had no previous coaching
experience and spent 10 years of his playing career at Milan, quickly
fell out of favour despite overseeing a significant improvement in
results.
Milan won 11 out of 19 Serie A matches under the Dutchman compared to
only five of the previous 19 under predecessor Massimiliano Allegri on
their way to an eighth-place finish, missing out on the Europa League by
one point.
Seedorf, 38, was playing for Botafogo in Brazil when he he was offered
the Milan job and cut short his playing career to accept what he clearly
felt was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
A crushing 5-1 aggregate defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Champions
League round of 16 appeared to turn the tide against Seedorf, who as a
player won the Champions League with Ajax, Real Madrid and Milan.
Former Italy striker Inzaghi, who has also never coached at senior level, had been in charge of the club's under-19 team.
He spent 11 seasons playing for Milan, winning two Serie A titles and
two Champions League crowns, and collected 57 caps for his country.
Inzaghi was on the end of one of former Manchester United manager Alex
Ferguson's most famous quotes when the Scot said: "That lad must have
been born offside".
Most critics agreed that Seedorf was not to blame for Milan's recent
troubles which has seen them slip down the pecking order in Serie A and
the Champions League.
Milan's difficulties began at the end of the 2011/12 season when they
decided it was time to balance the books and sold talismanic striker
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and key defender Thiago Silva to Paris St Germain.
Other long-time servants also left including defender Alessandro Nesta and tough-tackling midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.
The club hailed a new philosophy based on finding and developing
talented young players yet went and did exactly the opposite, hiring
players in the middle or latter stages of their careers.
The 2013 summer transfer window saw them splash out 11 million euros on
journeyman striker Alessandro Matri who failed to settle and was loaned
to Fiorentina in January.
Slovenian midfielder Valter Birsa was signed from Genoa as a free agent
while Kaka, 32, returned to the club after four injury-prone years at
Real Madrid in a classic case of what Italians call "reheated soup"
(minestre recaldati).
In January, the club then plucked Michael Essien out of Chelsea's reserves.
Milan promised to stick with coach Massimiliano Allegri until the end of
the season, but lost patience with him in January and brought in
Seedorf amid great fanfare.

$20billion oil revenue to the Federation Account.

While delivering his paper yesterday June 5 at the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in Abuja, President of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and Archbishop of Jos, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama said that the global Bio-tech market where people sell their body parts; vagina, womb, ovaries in exchange for money, has penetrated into Nigeria and that some Nigerian women are now targets of those behind this business.
According to him, this market is being handled by businessmen in partnership with some members of the National Assembly.
"Some scientists and dubious businessmen use members of the National Assembly to gain legal access to the wombs and ovaries of women and young girls. It is becoming increasingly clear to us that even in Nigeria, our women have become the targets of all manners of intrigues, especially as their fertility is concerned. Personal private parts of women, ranging from wombs, ovaries and human eggs risk being put up as commodities for sale at the global biotechnology market-places.” he said
There's a protest currently going on at the University of Lagos. Students are protesting UNILAG authority demanding that some students pay N20,000 for late editing or registration of Course Forms.
The students first converged at the University's Senate Building where they shouted slogans and sang protest songs, demanding that the school ends this form of exploitation today, while accusing their VC of corruption. They left the senate building and went on a rampage through all the faculties in UNILAG demanding their rights.
The students then blocked entrances to the school, preventing cars from going in and out of the campus.
The students claim they registered late because the school management shut the school portal against registration, only for the school to demand an extra N20,000 from students registering late. The police are currently there to calm things down.
