Dayo Adeneye: I’m Not Going into Politics to Make Money...

  • Dayo Adeneye

A few days ago showbiz personality & co-owner of Kennis Music, Dayo Adeneye, D1 announced his intention of joining politics in Nigeria and he stated that he will be contesting for a seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
With the number of Nigerian entertainers who have joined the political sector, a lot of people have started to wonder if there is an ulterior motive to their actions. Well Dayo Adeneye has come forward to refute that and state that he is not going into politics for the money.
According to Dayo, he is not motivated by money, but by the need to create a change and impact positively on his people.
Dayo Adeneye stated, “Anybody who knows me will testify that I made money when I was young. I was a millionaire in my 20s. I have built my houses. Kenny and I were among the first people in Nigeria to own Hummer Jeeps. We were also among the first to own the latest models of the Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle. This is not about boasting; I have made my mark. I am not looking for money. Everybody knows my pedigree. I am a hardworking person and I have businesses in communication and hospitality. My campaign is funded from my private savings account. I am not depending on anybody to bankroll it. I am not begging anybody for funds, though my friends and my relations are willing to help. I am funding my campaign from my pocket. I am going into politics to serve. I have decided that, since my children are in the university, now is the time to help build my country. What future am I going to leave for my children if they have no country to come back to? So I am not going into politics for money. Look at the rot in this country. We cannot all just sit back in our sitting rooms and continue to complain that the country is not good; the roads are bad and the power sector is not working. Somebody has to come out and do something about these things. Now is the time to help solve the problems in my country. And this is why I am running for a seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly”

Desmond Elliot: I Didn’t Suddenly Go into Politics; Politics Has Always Been a Part of Me

    Desmond-Elliot-Youth-Session-October-BellaNaija002

Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot announced his interest in a political position for the 2015 elections early this year and since then we have seen campaign photos, branded buses and more steps he has taken to help his new path.
In a new interview, Desmond Elliot speaks openly on his political ambition – he speaks on the fact that a lot of entertainers are going into politics, his reasons for going into politics personally, the fact that politics won’t stop his acting career and more.
Read excerpts from his interview with Vanguard newspaper below!
How has life been since you went into politics? It’s been okay, it’s been good, it’s exposed me to seeing more and the fact that I even want to give back. Out there, the people are not asking for a perfect turnaround, all they are asking for is something that can symbolise a change in their lifestyles.
Why did you suddenly go into politics? I didn’t suddenly go into politics; politics has always been a part of me. I’ve been involved in campaigns for some Governors and even the President. I’ve been on the campaign trail for very long time now. Even though I have never sought any elective office before I have always had it at back of my mind as something I would do one day. It is not a surprise at all, it’s a well-thought out action and I came very prepared. I didn’t just sleep one day and say okay, it’s time to go into politics
Are you going to leave Nollywood if you get elected? I can never leave Nollywood, I am only going to help in propagating and promoting laws that would help to structure the industry and make it better and improve it from the present situation – that’s it.
How do you see some of your Nollywood colleagues going into politics; do you think anybody can just wake up one morning and say they want to go into politics without having the potential in them? First, everyone is entitled by law to vote and be voted for. Secondly, I am maybe not too surprised that many of Nollywood actors in this dispensation are going into politics. It’s not too far from the fact that there have been a lot of socio-economic changes that have happened to us in recent times.
That being as it may, we still must realize the fact that Nollywood or entertainment as an industry has contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian economy and as such, it is not absurd or strange that those who have contributed to the growth of the economy should want to partake in politics to serve. We have a good relationship with our fans which are the public and the grassroots.
Sometimes people don’t just accept it because they don’t understand why somebody who is playing make-believe on TV should want to rule or serve.
At the end of the day, I can’t speak for everybody but what I do know is everyone is entitled as far as you’re a Nigerian to vote and be voted for.
Many people believe that entertainers are getting into politics because of money? Granted, yes, there’s money in politics but have you asked yourself one question, is it sand that you use to play politics? The answer is No. What you’re playing politics with is money. I’m not so much into what government is going to be giving as allowance, my idea as a fresh mind is how to harness the resources around me and provide for the people.
Because if I just stick with what government is giving, then I am just going to be like everybody else. But when I harness resources from both home and abroad, harness NGOs, harness non-profit organizations, corporate bodies, private bodies, and bring all into creating social responsibility and social development in the people, then I know I’m achieving something that has not been done before.
That is the major difference I’m bringing in; using me and the platform I have to create a lot and to make so many changes. It’s already started.
Many people perceive politics as a dirty game; are they right in your own opinion? I’ve always felt and I still feel that the Ministry of National Orientation has failed as regards this. I mean in giving people the right orientation as regards politics and violence. They have failed in their duty of sensitizing and giving information to people on how they should conduct themselves in a political dispensation. The orientation should be a continuous thing, not just during elections.
If people have been rightly sensitized that violence is not part of politics, violence would have disappeared in our politics.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) has beheaded yet another western aid worker.
CBS News reports that the video showed one of the militants standing over the severed head of the 26-year-old US victim, Peter Kassig.
ISIS captured Kassig last year, forced him to convert to Islam, and changed his name to “Abdul-Rahman” while he was in captivity.
In the video, the militant who beheaded Kassig, blamed President Barack Obama for the group’s violence.
“We say to you, Obama…you claim to have withdrawn from Iraq four years ago…here you are: you have not withdrawn. Rather, you hid some of your forces behind your proxies,” said the terrorist.
The deceased was a former U.S Army ranger, who was providing medical aid to Syrian refugees of the civil war when he was captured.

Muslim Cleric allegedly kills customer, dumps corpse on bridge...IN NIGERIA

  • Mr. Isiaka Akanbi, popularly called Alfa, has been arrested for allegedly killing a 62 year old woman, Raliatu Kareem (pictured right) after stealing her wallet and other personal effects.‎ According to a report on Punch, the Alfa ‎owns a traditional healing centre on Lawani Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos‎ and the late woman, Raliatu was his close customer for years.

It was gathered that on Saturday, October 25, Raliatu who lived in Agbado Ijaiye, Lagos, went to visit her niece who put to bed in the Olodi Apapa area. She was said to have left her house in Ijaiye after the monthly environmental exercise was over, informing her 20-year-old son, Abdullahi, of the visit after which she reportedly headed for the Alfa’s place at about 6pm.

Two days after, Raliatu did not return home as she promised and her family became apprehensive, trailing her to Olodi Apapa.
After not finding her at her initial destination, some family members, who knew she was a friend of the cleric, decided to check the Alfa’s place.
On getting there, the Alfa allegedly denied seeing her. The family became suspicious when Alfa reportedly started packing his property, and preparing to leave the house some hours later.
They raised an alarm and headed for the Tolu Police Station to report the incident and the Alfa was arrested.
During interrogation, Alfa told the police that he did not kill the woman, but that she died in his place.
    According to him,
“On the evening of October 26, it is true that she visited me. We have been very good friends too. On that day, she just collapsed and became unconscious. I quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital, but I was shocked when the nurses told me she had died. I got a NAPEP tricycle and took her corpse to the Marine Bridge that same night and abandoned it there. I did not want people to trace her corpse to me. When I got home, I buried her wallet, handset, bangle and ring behind my house. I did not kill her. I am an Alfa, I do favour charms for traders. I met Raliatu in 1986. Since then, we have been family friends. She used to come to my place for consultation and I had been to her house too.”
One of the deceased's children, Abdullahi, said,
“I have seen the man in our house a number of times. But he said she died in his house and he now took her corpse to Marina Bridge and abandoned it. We want him to produce that corpse so that we can bury her appropriately.”
After contacting all relevant agencies in the state, the family said the corpse had yet to be found.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the case and that it has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba .

  • Aaliyah's biopic - Aaliyah: Princess of R&B aired on the Lifetime network this past Saturday night and its co-executive producer Wendy Williams and Lifetime have been dragged for utter filth over the miscasting, bad acting and horrible singing, including the fact that the actress who played Aaliyah Alexandra Shipp didn't wear her long black hair across one side of her face as Aaliyah was so well known for. Leading the slew of backlash on social media is Aaliyah's former producer, Timbaland, who was depicted in the low-budget production by an actor who looked nothing like him. He said;

"A lotta people keep asking me if I'm watching that bulls***. Evidently not, no way, not Timbo" he said in a video posted on Instagram...

'How Soyinka & I set up Pyrates Confraternity' - 82 yr old Prof. Awe reveals (True Story)

    By: Emmanuelomobhude On: 04:04

  • The Pyrates Confraternity, which later metamorphosed into cultism in universities was founded by seven prominent Nigerians back in their days as undergraduate students at the University of Ibadan in 1953. It was the brain child of Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, who got 6 of his friends - Nat Oyelola, Sylvanus Egbuche, Pius Olehi, AIG Imokhuede, Ralph Okwara and Prof. Bolanle Awe, involved. Prof. Awe, who is now a pastor at Fullness of Christ Evangelical Ministry (FOCEM) in Ibadan explains how it all started...
The idea was conceived by Wole himself, at least I know he was the one who talked to me. I don’t know who spoke to the other five members but we actually assembled at Teeder Hall, the second hall to be completed after Melamby. We assembled in the basement and just made merry in the evening. We were just out to be different and I saw it to be fun. None of us envisaged that we were laying the foundation of a virulent cult in that 1953/54 session, though the association insisted that it was in 1952 hence they celebrated their 50 years in 2002. At that basement we had something to drink, nothing potent, we went around the campus in unusual ways, we were well known and there was nothing like secret oath, nothing spiritual about it all.

You earlier said people doubted your new life because of what you have dipped your hands into. What were these things?
I am one of those who founded Pyrates Confraternity (PC) and I am one of those who maintained that though PC which transformed to National Association of Seadogs (NAS) truly dissociated itself from PC on campuses, it can not really separate itself from it. This was the basis of the attack of Prof. Wole Soyinka on me at their 50th anniversary where he gave an 18-page lecture, where substantial part of it was an attack on me and my ministry. That only showed me that his camp noted that someone has left them. In fact, I have just finished writing a reply to him on that.

My attitude is that whatever we may say today, it was the idea of PC that gave rise to these virulent cults. Even though we were not violent when we started it and we didn’t call it cult, but the cult culture began after when we started. Today, they still recognise we the founders as the Magnificent 7! The NAS does not want to agree with that. Though they decreed that no PC should not exist on campuses, but we all know that they still do. The fact is if they say they have no link to the ones on the campuses, I’ll be prepared to accept that but to say they don’t exist on campuses, I disagreed and we parted ways on that.

At the time you started, what was the criteria used to recruit members
It was solely based on friendship. My own interpretation was that at the appropriate time, Satan hijacked what we started since we didn't know where we were going.

What were the creed of the association?
I wrote it somewhere I can not locate now. I think they were to abolish convention, revive the age of chivalry (where you show deference to the weaker sex) etc. In any case I can’t remember anything that we did to promote those creeds. The motto was; Orders Is Orders. Also, Wole did not stay long enough because he left a year after for Leeds, because he wanted to study English honours which was not available as a course in Ibadan then. I think Ralph Opara took over from him as the head. But I stayed till 1956 when I left for Britain. Three of us Wole, me and Pius Olehie, who formed the PC, were from the same class in Government College, Ibadan while Ralph Opara was a year before us.

So when would you say Pyrates Confraternity became virulent?
I think by the 1980s. The thing is that at the beginning, there was only PC and so many people struggled to be a member because it was a prestigious thing. When I returned from Britain, some students who wanted to become members needed a lecturer to sponsor their membership, those who came to me got my nod.

Up till about 1972, PC was the only association, but when there was schism over one of them who violated the law and he was not ready to subject himself to discipline, he left and started a rival organisation and that was how the Buccaneers Confraternity started. About the same time, Eye Confraternity started. You must not also forget that violence was become rife in the society. This began in Ibadan with Operation Wetie around 1964/ 65. Things became intolerable until the coup in 1967.

Violence became the order of the day and it crept into PC by the time, I had become disenchanted with the club and was ready to leave. Some of the PC members had their vision beclouded by violence and the old PC decided to form National Association of Seadogs and went ahead to register it at the Corporate Affairs. They said PC should no longer exist on campuses but there is a difference between saying and establishing it.

So the whole thing between Wole and I was the inability to establish what they proposed, and so other groups began to spring up in various universities using the name Pyrates Confraternity because nobody has any right on the name. This is the problem between Wole and I.

At what point did you renounce your membership?
I must say that I did not officially renounce until I became a Christian. I kept being less and less active because I kept seeing it as an activity for children and younger people. But when I became born-again and established this ministry, I consciously went to God and confess that we were the people who started this thing, which has become something we did not envisage. I asked Him to forgive me and forgive the rest of us and I confessed on behalf of others too. That is the only time I’ll say I renounced it. It was a private thing.

    Have you done that publicly?
No, I have not bothered but I’ve told all who are concerned that I’m no longer one of them. At any public opportunity, I always say it and they know that I am no longer one of them. If Wole could take the trouble to attack me in an 18-page report, then I know it has registered that I am no longer one of them.

Did they make any effort to ask you why you were leaving?
No, we did not bond ourselves to be members forever. I think when they found out that I stopped turning up for their meetings that must have convinced them that I was no longer interested. But I didn’t make any statement concerning them until I started this ministry and got involved in the University as chairman of Anti-cultism Campaign Committee.

Did you take the cultism to a higher level like joining the Ogboni, as people believe it happens?
As I said, I was only active in it between 1953 and 1957after which I left for Britain. When I came back in 1960, I was on the staff of the University and was just an adviser to them. I didn’t know what they did at their services (meetings) I didn’t know when the oath taking, etc started or if it was actually done. However, I know it is done today. This is what the Seadogs pretend not to know.

Have you spoken about Christ to Wole Soyinka?
I have not but I will certainly welcome the opportunity. The only problem I envisage is that unless God softens Wole’s heart, it might be difficult to speak with him on Christ....
