A suicide bomber friday detonated a bomb hidden in his car at a filling
station on Maiduguri Road, Kano, killing five others including three
policemen in the process.
Scores of people were also injured at the Magarshiku Filling Station
located opposite the NNPC Mega Station in Hotoro area, on the outskirts
of Kano.
An eyewitness, Aliyu Yusuf said: “I heard a big bang near my residence and before I realised what was happening, I heard my neighbours saying it was a bomb explosion.”

A combined team of soldiers and policemen raced to the scene and
condoned off the area, while the usually-busy area became deserted as
traders and passersby rushed into their houses for safety.
The Police Commissioner, Kano State Command, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba confirmed the casualty figure to reporters at the scene of the explosion.

He said the bomber queued alongside other customers inside the filling
station pretending to be buying fuel, before detonating the apparently
bomb-laden vehicle.
Shinaba urged people in the state to be vigilant at all time by
reporting any suspicious persons or object to security agents, “which
will help to curtail the activities of the terrorists.”
Some of the injured were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, in the city for treatment.
