A display of 7-round .45 caliber handguns are seen at Coliseum Gun
Traders Ltd. in Uniondale, New York January 16, 2013. President Barack Obama
proposed a new assault weapons ban and mandatory background checks for all gun
buyers on Wednesday as he tried to channel national outrage over the Newtown
school massacre into the biggest U.S. gun-control push in decades
Despite a gunshot wound in the head inflicted by her father, a
12-year-old girl in Queens, New York, called 911 on Saturday morning and sought
help. Besides the girl, Jonathan Walker, 34, also shot his girlfriend, the mum
of his girlfriend and a younger daughter for unknown reason.
When the police arrived, the brave 12-year-old opened the door for
the cops and talked to them for 15 minutes even if she had a head wound. The
bullet exited through her eyes, reports the New York Post.
The police rushed her to the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in
New Hyde Park where she remains in critical condition.
Walker, weighed 260 pounds and stood at 6 feet and 6 inches, was a
nightclub bouncer. He reportedly went from room to room and shot Kayla Walker,
7; Shantai Hale, 31; and Viola Warren, 62. The three are his daughter,
wife and mother-in-law, respectively; all sustained head wounds and declared dead
at the scene of the crime.
A neighbour said the Walkers were a “nice, happy family.” Jonathan
was even seen smiling outside their home on Friday. The family had been seen
taking walks, dining and driving around the neighbourhood. That night, Walker
told a friend that he was watching a movie in Netflix with his family and
having some beer.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the Walkers had little
evidence of discord, except for two minor domestic incidents in 2005 and 2006.
Wendell Warren, the brother of Viola, said the Walkers were
supposed to spend time with relatives on Friday night.
Walker arrived home at 5:38 a.m. By 5:45 a.m., the elder daughter
called 911 to report the shooting.
Also living in the same house was Jennifer Warren, the sister of
Viola, who stays on the ground floor and didn’t hear the gunshots because of a
hearing problem. “It’s a good thing she didn’t hear the shots because she would
have come running upstairs and I would’ve missed another sister. That saved
her,” Warren told the New York Post.
Walker’s dead body was found inside his car, a silver 2013 GMC
Acadia. He committed suicide using the same .45 caliber gun that took the life
of three of his loved ones. The vehicle was parked in an area near the John F.
Kennedy Airport.
Warren said that while Walker drinks, he didn’t have a drinking
problem. “There was no indication of anything that could make him remotely do
this, none whatsoever. It just came out of nowhere,” he adds.
